The Greatest Game

At home and at work I use Mozilla Firebird (now called Firefox) exclusively. Here in London I am using my friend's computer (and IE 6.0) and I noticed something very disturbing: when you go to my site (hosted at blogspot.com) a popup (pop-under) ad appears. This is UNACCEPTABLE. I sincerely apologize to everyone who has been bombarded by all of this crap. Mozilla blocks popup ads so I had no idea that you were being tortured by them. The very least I can do for all of you is to get my own web hosting somewhere and get my site off of Blogspot. I will start the process of the move shortly after I get back to the States.

Again, I sincerely apologize to everyone and I look forward to rectifying the situation quickly.

The Yankees in London

Besides seeing several more people in Yankees hat here in London (and one kid dressed in all Yankee clothes), I noticed an article in today's The Times (on the American Sport page of the Friday paper) about the Yankees signing ARod. I'll give you some samples from the article:
You gotta love those Brits!

Ouch! Stark strikes again

Since I started this blog a couple of months ago, Jayson Stark at espn.com hasn't written a column that neccessitated me commenting on it. Well, his new column is out, and it's, I think, supposed to be a "humor" piece that makes fun of the Yankees and how much money they spend on player salary. Since I'm in London I don't have much time to comment on it, but one quick glance will tell you all you need to know.

Oh yeah, the National Gallery was amazing, and so was the free concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields. And I got to see the tomb of Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots. Fantasic!

Yankee fans in London

Well, I've been in London for half a day and I've already seen 4 people with Yankee caps - 3 at the airport and 1 here in Richmond where I'm staying. I didn't get a chance to talk to any of them since they were all at a distance.

Sunday, February 15, 2004

OK, I'm off to London in a couple of hours. I'll be gone for the week, but I should still be able to post occasionally while I'm there, so check back in during the week to see what I'm up to. I was going to get my girlfriend to post for me during the week, but there wasn't time for me to show her how to post to the blog. Maybe next time.

ARod and Win Shares

ARod's 2003 Win Shares: 32
Soriano's 2003 Win Shares: 27

If those Win Shares hold up for 2004, then the Yankees will win about 2 more games with ARod than with Soriano. But if ARod moves to 3B, then he could potentially have less Defensive Win Shares in 2004 than in 2003 (third basemen tend to have less DWS than shortstops). But if he really does play SS and Jeter moves to 3B, then that point would be moot (Jeter only had 1.36 Win Shares at SS last year). It will be interesting to see what happens at 2B with the Yanks. Who knows, maybe Jeter will move to 2B.
