Games Started and Innings Pitched: follow up
This is a follow up to this post
where I talked about the pitchers with the most games started over the past 10 years. The new Random Stat for today is Innings Pitched per Game Started. As you can see, the Arizona Big 2 are tops in list and the only two with more than 7 IP/GS. A comparison to the previous Most Games Started list sees Tom Glavine drop off the Top 10 (he's 11th with 6.60 IP/GS).
- There are still 4 past & present Yankees on the list, but they've all slipped down a bit.
- A surprise here is Alex Fernandez who pitched his last game in 2000 for the Marlins. I can't remember, but I'm guessing his career was ended by an injury, because he was still pitching fairly well at the end of his career. He was a workhorse for a couple of years - 1996: 258 IP, 1993: 247 IP, 1997: 220 IP.
- Livian Hernandez appears on the list, too. The past 4 years he's posted 240, 226, 216, and 233 Innings Pitched, but only two of those seasons he's posted a positive RSAA (13, -32, -14, 50). For his career, he has an RSAA of 1. Pretty even steven considering he's pitched since 1996.
Thanks for putting up with my Random Stats feature over there on the right. Maybe I'm the only one who finds it the least bit interesting, but I find that when I search for stats, you can learn an amazing amount of stuff that you wouldn't have learned otherwise. Honestly, I had forgotten about Alex Fernanandez, and I certainly didn't realize that he was a consistently good pitcher after his first couple of seasons. He ran a string of seasons where he posted the following RSAA (33,13,16,32,12,15) - not too shabby. It's nice to re-remember about some of the players who have left the league.
